Admittedly, right now I am in a gaming hiatus as I haven’t really committed myself in playing anything seriously, but this piece of news woke me up to a jolt.  It has been announced recently that Level Up! will be distributing StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty prepaid cards in the Philippines.  Wait a minute, prepaid cards?  Looks like Blizzard is finally  offering us South-East Asian players subscription options in playing StarCraft II!  This is good news for those who are new to the game and want to get their feet wet without having to spend a fortune on the boxed game set.  This is also a pretty awesome alternative for students and players who are in tight budgets as they can manage their game spending easily now with this new subscription scheme.

The rates for the subscription goes like this:

  • PHP 50.00 for a 3-day subscription access to Battle.net,
  • PHP 100.00 for a 7-day subscription access to Battle.net, and
  • PHP 350.00 for a 30-day subscription access to Battle.net

Of course, if you’re planning to play the game for more than 10 months, the boxed game is a more viable option for you, but if you’re more of a casual player (like me) this is a pretty sweet deal!

So, what do you need to do now to play the game?

Head on over to Battle.net and sign up for a free account.  If you’ve successfully made one, log in your account and choose StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty under Game Management.  You will see a download link for the game client in that page; choose whether you’re operating a Mac OS or Windows, and you’re ready to download for free.  You can also load up your account for subscription in the same page by choosing the ‘Add Game Time Code’ option.

If you think the game client’s too big to download, you can opt to buy a Starter Kit which comes with the game disc and a 7-Day subscription card.  Alternatively, you can visit your favorite internet cafes and check out whether they have the game installed in their systems.  You just need to make sure you’re subscribed so you can play.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty prepaid cards will be made available to your favorite prepaid card distributors so better keep an eye on them when they hit the local market.  I’m sure they’ll be sold out faster than a zerg rush :)
